DILI, 3 december 2021 (TATOLI) – The Center for Arts and Cultural Studies (CECA) and the National Institute of Linguistics (INL) of the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL) launched three new books entitled “Matadalan ba Tenses, Aspects no Moods iha Ingles”, Introdução ao Estudo Linguístico de Timor-Leste: Uma analise Linguística”, and “Decolonialidade na Educação de Timor-Leste: Dilemas e Perspectivas.”
“Matadalan ba Tenses, Aspects no Moods iha Ingles” was written by Aderito José Guterres Correia, a senior lecturer of the English Department of UNTL.
He said the book was produced to facilitate English language learners and students to learn and improve their English skills.
“This is books help students to learn tenses, as you know English verbs have different forms of conjugation and we don’t have it in Tetun. Thus, I want to facilitate Timorese English language learners and students to write and speak English correctly. In this book, I also want to explain different types of all conditional in English,” Correia told reporters after the launching of the books at the Conference Hall of the Fundação Oriente, on Friday.
He said the book was written based on his own experiences, saying after reading the thesis of students from the English Department at UNTL, he found that many students are still having difficulties using conditionals correctly in writing and speaking.
“I would like to call on the young generation to spend some time to read and write down their ideas,” he added.
Paulino Vicente, the Director of the Center for Arts and Cultural Studies (CECA) informed that CECA supported the publication of the book, written by Professor Aderito Jose Guterres Correia is an institutional collaboration between INL and CECA on the research program and the production of knowledge in association with linguistic and cultural studies.
At the same place, Rosa da Costa Tilman said that: “The Introdução ao Estudo Linguístico de Timor-Leste, Uma analise Linguística” which I co-authored is to help the Timorese readers to learn and speak Tetun language properly.
“Even we are Tetun native speakers but many of us still fail in pronouncing Tetun words properly. We need to keep learning and practicing how to speak our language correctly,” she said.
Echoing Tilman’s words, Vicente said the idea of producing and publishing the book “Introdução ao Estudo Linguístico de Timor-Leste: Uma analise Linguística”, a linguistic analysis written by Aderito Jose Guterres Correia, Miguel Maia dos Santos, Rosa da Costa Tilman, and Vicente Paulino, aiming to disseminate language studies produced by Timorese linguistic lecturers of the National University of Timor Lorosa’e.
“This book is composed of eight articles. The articles focused on semantics and phonology. Semantics concentrates on verbs, adjectives, and nouns, while phonology focuses on constants and linguistic concordance; comparative linguistic studies, and linguistic expression,” said Vicente.
He said the book “Decolonialidade na Educação de Timor-Leste, Dilemas e Perspectivas,”is written by lecturers: Suzani Cassiani, Vicente Paulino, and Patricia Giraldi, adding Suzani Cassiani and Patricia Girladi are lecturers from the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
“The book “Decolonialidade na Educação de Timor-Leste: Dilemas e Perspectivas,”consists of eight articles focusing on the trans-nationalization of education, academic cooperation, decoloniality, emancipation, and critical education, including socio-educational and curriculum,” Vicente added.
“I would like to thank the authors for their valuable contributions, which make us confident with the publication of these three books,” said Vicente.
