DILI, 20 december, 2021 (TATOLI)– Alola Foundation is offering innovative ideas and financial management training for 60 women’s groups in 12 municipalities including RAEOA to empower women’s businesses.

Alola Foundation Executive Director, Maria Imaculada Guterres said this training would provide participants with knowledge on how to turn recycled plastic waste into plastic flowers, and participants would also get the opportunity to learn how to transform Tais into bags, hats, wallets, and more useful material.

Guterres explained that apart from the training, the participants had the opportunity to promote their products such as art products, handmade traditional clothing, and other traditional products at every special event, especially in the Christmas and Easter seasons.

“The Alola Foundation connects women’s groups with markets,” says Guterres.

Guterres confirmed that the training was also funded by the Thai Government at 6,000 USD over two years and managed by the Alola Foundation.

Thailand’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Sakollawat Thogcharoen said Thailand was grateful for helping East Timorese women entrepreneur groups develop their businesses by funding activities that would enhance their skills in the arts and business.

“We hope this assistance can provide some income to improve the family’s economy and send their children to school,” said Thogcharoen.

In line with that, Olivia Seraõ, a group of entrepreneurs from Maubara said, she was happy to gain a lot of experience during the training, especially on how to turn Tais into other products such as Tais bags, Tais hats, and others.

“I raised 200 USD during my participation in the Christmas exhibition organized by the Alola Foundation in 2020, meanwhile for this year I raised 70 USD in the two days of the exhibition organized by the Alola Foundation,” She concluded.

It is known, in the preview year 2020, 60 women’s groups have raised more than 6,000 USD during the pandemic.
