DILI, 21 december 2021 (TATOLI) – Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in Timor-Leste, Thomas Daley, inaugurated the completion of the construction of a new 4-room classroom of No.2 Public High School, in Baucau municipality.
Daley said that the personnel of United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, from the U.S. Naval Construction Force (NCF), six Timorese, and five Australian began the construction of the new 4-room classroom in september.
He said Navy Seabees dedicated their time for the construction of the school with a secure and excellent framework to ensure a good future for the new generation.
So far, the Navy Seabees had completed more than 100 projects of the construction of schools and clinics across the national territory.
Navy Seabees had completed the construction of 103 projects that were worth more than US$50 million since 2009.
In addition, in the near future, the U.S Navy Seabees are going to construct a two-room schoolhouse in Maubara Administrative Post of Liquica municipality with an estimated cost of US$288.000.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Vice Minister of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), António Guterres said that Timor-Leste and U.S Navy Seabees had been working together in the area of education to construct school across the country, including three schools in Baucau municipality.
“We are grateful to the American people for all the support. I hope Baucau will look after these schools,” Guterres told reporters after the inauguration of the schoolhouse in Baucau municipality, on tuesday.
No.2 High School previously has 20 classrooms which were simply had not had enough space to accommodate its current 1003 students and 73 teachers.
The construction project of the No.2 High School cost around US$350.
