DILI, 28 december 2021 (TATOLI) – Ingrid Bucens, the spouse of Timor-Leste’s true hero ‘Max Stahl’ said Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak had reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure the sustainability of the Max Stahl Audiovisual Archive Center (CAMSTL).
In a meeting with Prime Minister in Dili, Bucens said Ruak reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to supporting CAMSTL in the future.
“Prime Minister invited us to meet him and he expressed his deepest condolences to us as Max’s family. He reaffirmed and reinforced the government’s commitment to continue supporting CAMSTL in the future as a public institute,” Bucens told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, in Dili, on tuesday.
“During the meeting, Ruak told us that the drafting of a proposal on the legal framework for the transformation of CAMSTL into a public institute is ongoing. So, both parties, the government, and Max’s family would set up a group to finalize the drafting of the proposal.”
Bucens said she was grateful for the Government’s commitment to ensure the continuity of Max’s legacy.
Bucens got emotional remembering Max’s ambition to have an institute to keep his legacy alive: “I am very emotional as you know this is what Max had been fighting so hard for.”
“More discussions will take place shortly. But, it’s not me who is going to lead CAMSTL. We will likely have a board to work with the government to lead CAMSTL in the future,” she said.
CAMSTL holds significant footage on developments in the territory while under the United Nations administration until 2002. Since then, a large amount of material has been recorded – covering historical interviews and present-day economic, social, political, and other institutional events and developments in Timor-Leste.
CAMSTL team has developed hundreds of detailed summaries and transcripts of the material and a growing number of formal production titles in local languages. Such material will prove invaluable to future generations of Timorese, including its educators and historians to come.
