DILI, 29 december 2021 (TATOLI) – The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union (EU) handed over the accommodation of a four-bedroom house to the Ministry of Health (MoH) to accommodate the families of the hospitalized patients at the Lahane Health Care Facility, in Dili, Timor-Leste.

The WHO Representative to Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur said that the family accommodation is important to provide the compassionate care and support that the government of Timor-Leste has been extended to the people, particularly to the families of the patients who encounter the infection and have been brought to the Lahane Health Care Facility.

“I could not say in words, but how grateful we are to our partner and collaborator, the European Union, for the generous support that they have extended (…) to partner with WHO and MoH to deliver some of these important activities and work that we are witnessing today,” said Mathur.

He said through the cooperation of the EU and WHO, it would be possible to fulfill the dream of the Ministry of Health to build an additional accommodation to provide rest space for the doctors and nurses at the Lahane Health Care Facility.

The fund for building the accommodation for families of hospitalized patients was given by the Europe Union.

Peter Beilby, the constructor of the Miplug Construction Lda said that the construction of the four-bedroom accommodation cost around US$ 92.000: “This accommodation would accommodate 32 people.”

At the same place, the Representative of the EU, Ramon Reigada, said that the European Union is a peculiar donor, saying it wanted to work with many partners as possible.

“Our support is very fundamental, but coming here to witness the handover ceremony of the temporary accommodation for the families of the hospitalized patients is something that we can touch,” Reigada said in his remarks at the handover ceremony.

The Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo thanked WHO and EU for the provision of the accommodation to support the families of the hospitalized patients at the Health Care Facility.

“We have 25 beds for the patients here at this hospital. So, I think this accommodation gives us enough spaces to accommodate the families of the hospitalized patients,” said Belo.
