DILI, 3 january 2022 (TATOLI) – Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Social Communication (MAPCOMS) called on media (print, online, and broadcast) to treat the presidential candidates in their coverage during the 2022 presidential election equally in terms of air time and space.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Social Communication (MAPCOMS), Francisco Martins da Costa Pereira Jerónimo told reporters after having a meeting with Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, in Dili, on monday.
“I call on media to treat each candidate equally during the 2022 presidential election campaign. So that, each candidate could successfully spread their program to the people,” Jerónimo said.
He said the media shouldn’t treat one particular candidate more special than others.
“TV and radio must provide the same air time to each candidate following the rules and regulations to ensure stability in the country,” he stressed.
Last week, President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lu Olo’ also held a special meeting with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to hear government preparation for the upcoming presidential election.
