DILI, 12 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the New Zealand Embassy in collaboration with the Government’s Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI) launched a week-long training for 20 representatives from 6 organizations of disabled people’s.
The training focuses on nutrition, education, prevention of violence against children and persons with disabilities, funded by UNICEF and the New Zealand Embassy with a total budget of $8,000, while the training will be facilitated by the Youth Parliamentary Alumni Association (APFTL).
UNICEF Country Representative in Timor – Leste, Bilal Durrani, said UNICEF is committed to supporting ADTL, in particular, to develop the life skills of persons with disabilities to involve them in the National Development process.
“We have supported material and financial donations to ADTL and other organizations of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Timor Leste intending to empower Persons with Disabilities to be involved in National development,” Durrani told Tatoli at ADTL Mascarenhas office, Dili today
Durrani added that UNICEF has been working closely with the New Zealand Embassy in Timor-Leste to support the needs of people with disabilities through disability organizations in Timor-Leste.
New Zealand Ambassador to Timor Leste Phillip Hewitt on the other side wish to continue the cooperation with ADTL in the future.
“New Zealand Embassy also committed to supporting ADTL and other PD Associations and wishes to continue to work with ADTL to empower PWD in Timor-Leste,” said Ambassador Hewit.
In the same place, ADTL Director Sezario da Silva said that the Trainer of Training (TOT) for life skills education will be held from 12 january-17 january within five days, and will participate by 20 PDs from PD organizations in Timor – Leste.
“This Education-based Life Skill will be attended by 20 people with disabilities as TOT and then they will facilitate other people with disabilities in Timor – Leste,” said Silva.
Additionaly, UNICEF and the New Zealand Embassy provided 250 hygiene packages to be distributed to 250 families with disabilities in the cities of Dili and Manatutu who were affected by natural disasters and vulnerable communities during the covid-9 period.
Cesario da Silva on behalf of ADTL expressed his appreciation to UNICEF and the New Zealand Embassy for the support given to ADTL so far.
