Head of Motaél Village, Luis Antonio Candido Gusmão Viegas said that currently, residents in Moetael are carrying out neighborhood cleaning activities, saying this activity has been conducted since the country was hit by flash floods on April 4.
“This program is a pilot program, and is implemented every three months,” Viegas told Tatoli in his office, Motel Dili.
According to Viegas, this program has directly involved the community, the vulnerable, and people with disabilities: “Since this program was implemented we have employed 20 people to work on this program, including vulnerable families and persons with disabilities, everyone has the opportunity to work and everyone is paid by the Dili City Government a total of about $5 per day,” said Viegas.
The output of this program shows positive results because with this program most of the residents living in Moetael have a well understood of proper waste disposal and protecting the environment.
“This program has a big impact on the environment, the community knows how to manage waste so that the environment becomes clean and beautiful with the implementation of this program,”
At the same time, Viegas asks the relevant agencies to expand this program in other villages as well, to reduce waste and prevent an increase in the number of dengue fever in Timor-Leste.
Currently, Motel records 6090 residents, of which 3,431 are men and 3,469 are women.
