DILI, 11 June 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Manuel Domingos Augusto, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola and distinguished diplomat of the Angolan State.
In an official message of condolence addressed to President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, dated 8 June 2026, President Ramos-Horta paid tribute to Augusto’s notable public service career, during which he dedicated his life to strengthening Angolan institutions and enhancing the nation presence in African and international affairs.
“At this moment of pain and consternation, I wish to offer Your Excellency, the Government of the Republic of Angola, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), as well as the bereaved family, my deepest condolences and solidarity,” the President said in a statement.
Throughout a remarkable career of public service, Manuel Domingos Augusto dedicated his life to strengthening Angolan institutions and projecting his country internationally.
“His legacy will remain as an example of commitment to diplomacy, peace, and the development of the African continent,” he said.
Manuel Domingos Augusto served as a diplomat, ambassador, permanent representative to the African Union, Deputy Minister of Social Communication and, later, Minister of Foreign Affairs, he performed highly responsible functions with professionalism, dedication and a profound sense of patriotic duty.
In this time of mourning, President Ramos-Horta joins the Angolan people in honoring the memory of an illustrious statesman and servant of the Nation.
“May his family find comfort in the memories of his exemplary life, and may his memory continue to inspire future generations of diplomats and public servants of Angola,” the statement read.
