DILI, 18 january 2022 (TATOLI) – Tenant General Lere Anan Timur had officially submitted a retirement letter to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) to run for President this year.
“This morning at around 11 am, I have submitted my retirement letter to MoD. Possibly, I will submit my letter of resignation tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” Lere Anan Timur told reporters after attending the anniversary of the Military Police, in Dili, on monday.
He said retiring from his position as a Tenant General of Timorese National Defense Force would be his last career, saying, therefore, the government no need to prevent it.
“It’s my right. Resignation is sacrificing my military life career. Thus, I must resign from my current post as the Tenant General of F-FDTL. Therefore, instead of retiring from my position, I must resign from it,” he said.
Timur said for the acceptance of his retirement letter is depended on the bureaucracy of the government.
Timur would run for President
The 24-year veteran had affirmed that he was ready to be one of the candidates among others in the upcoming presidential election.
“As I have declared to the public that I have political power. Thus, I am ready to run for the presidential election this year,” he said.
“Apart from political parties, I also have the support of the people and the veterans to candidate myself for this presidential election.”
The President of the Republic is the Head of State and the symbol and guarantor of national independence and unity of the State and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions.
Falur would lead F-FDTL following Timur’s resignation
Timur said Major General of F-FDTL, Domingos Raul ‘Falur Rate Laek’ would substitute him to lead F-FDTL following his resignation.
“There is no doubt about it that these three Commanders – Major General Falur Tate Laek, Aluc Sabika, and Maunana would lead F-FDT after my resignation,” he said.
Timur called on all military personnel to respect and love the three commanders who would lead F-FDTL.
Timur also urged the next commander of the F-FDTL to improve the military personnel’s well-being.
Lere Anan Timur four year mandate as Tenant General of F-FDTL began in 2015 and ended in 2019. His mandate was extended to October 2022.
