DILI, 28 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Francisco Guetrres ‘Lú Olo’, today, has officially exonerated Timor-Leste’s General Chief of Staff of Timor-Leste’s National Defense Force, Tenant General Lere Anan Timur.
To replace Timur’s post, the president nominated Major-General Domingos Raul ‘Falur Rate Laek as the new General Chief of Staff of F-FDTL.
Last week (21/01), the Council of Ministers was officially decided to discuss the exoneration of the Lere Anan Timur following the request of the Superior Council for Defense and Security (SCDS).
“Based on the proposal of the Council of Ministers on january 27, and after having a consultation with the Superior Council for Defense and Security (SCDS) on the exoneration and nomination of the new Tenant General of F-FDTL, the President of the Republic decreed the exoneration of the Tenant General Lere Anan Timur, while nominated Falur Rate Laek to the post,” said in a statement released on friday.
As it is defined in the article 86(m) of the Constitution of Timor-Leste, the President of the Republic has the competency: “To appoint and dismiss, following a proposal by the Government, the General Chief of Staff of the Defense Force, the Deputy General Chief of Staff of the Defense Force, and the Chiefs of Staff of the Defense Force, after consultation with the General Chief of Staff regarding the latter two cases.”
According to the new act of the F-FDTL, the post of the General Chief of Staff of the F-FDTL should be occupied by a Tenant General or a Vice Admiral.
On january 18, Tenant General Lere Anan Timur officially submitted his retirement letter to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) to run for President this year.
