DILI, 11 february 2022 (TATOLI)- To terminate mission in Timor-Leste at the short time, the Portugal Ambassador to Timor–Leste, José Pedro Machado Viera met with the Timorese’s President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres.
“The purpose of this meeting is to say farewell with the President of the National Parliament,” José Pedro Machado Viera told reporters after meeting with the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres Lopes at the yard of the National Parliament on thursday.
Ambassador José Pedro Machado Veira also informed the President of the National Parliament that the new Portugal Ambassador will come to continue the diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste.
During this time the Ambassador of Portugal, José Pedro Machado, has collaborated with the National Parliament of Timor-Leste specially the cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of Portugal, the Inter Parliamentary Union in the Community Country of Portuguese Language (CPLP) to spread the important values between the two countries and the CPLP.
In addition, it also provides support to the National Parliament specially through the Committee C in the area of financial supervision and public finance.
“During the meeting we discussed the cooperation that the Portugal Government has conducted through its embassy in Timor-Leste and is committed to continuing the cooperation in the National Parliament in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, José Pedro Machado Vieira (born 1959 in Angola) is a Portuguese diplomat.
He was Head of Department at the OSCE, Director General for Multilateral Affairs, seconded to the Directorate for Institutional Services and at the Permanent Mission of Portugal to NATO in Brussels.
Vieira was also Consul in Santos (Brazil) and Consul General in Hamburg. From 2014 to 2017 he was Director of Services for Asia and Oceania in the Directorate-General for Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On august 22, 2017, Vieira was appointed Portuguese Ambassador to Timor-Leste by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Vieira presented his accreditation to Timorese President Francisco Guterres on january 19, 2018.
