DILI, 16 february 2022 (TATOLI)- A few owners of garden in Australia have committed to recruit Timorese workers to work on the agriculture garden in Australia because Timorese workers have shown very satisfactory hard work performance, The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno told Tatoli in the International Nicolau Lobato at VIP room, Comoro Dili, this wednesday.
“My visit to Australia last week was very positive because I was invited directly by the garden owners in Australia, I visited Griffith, New South Wales, where 17 Timorese workers making their excellent contribution to Mossmont Nurseries, on that occasion, Business Manager Jonathan Moss informs that the Mossmont Nurseries will bring another Timorese worker in the future”.
“At the same occasion I was also invited by the Tou Mango Garden, the Tou Garden has accommodated Timorese seasonal workers for several years. The Tou Mango Garden ‘s owner expressed their satisfaction with the Timorese workers and their intention to employ more Timorese workers, because of that several agriculture gardens will recruit another 450 Timorese workers to work in Australia in the short term,” she added.
For these commitment, Foreign Minister Adaljiza Magno on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste thanked the Australian Government and agriculture garden ‘s owner who have cooperated in accepting Timorese workers to work in Australia and hopes that this bilateral cooperation will be continued in the future to contribute the economic growth in Timor – Leste.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Adaljiza Magno had concluded her working visit in Australia with success and had returned to Timor – Leste by Qantas Aircraft today.
“My working visit to Canberra and Darwin, Australia is success because all of the agenda setting is running well and its one of the honorable for Timor – Leste,’’ The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno told reporters at the VIP room of International Nicolao Lobato, Comoro Dili, this wednesday.
The visit began with a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia, Senator the Hon. Marise Payne. The two Ministers discussed a range of bilateral, regional and multilateral issues, including Covid – 19 labour mobility and economic cooperation. The two Ministers concluded the meeting by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.
Minister Magno had the opportunity to visit ONA Coffee on 11 february to hear more about the establishment of ” Origem Timor’’ coffee as a result of partnership between Project Origin Kape Diem Coffee and Canberra consulting firm 1LM. The partnership is supported by the Australian Government Business Partnership Platform (BPP) and aims to produce specialty coffee in Timor – Leste, supporting farmers and creating jobs. The Minister made brief remarks highlighting the potential of Orijem Timor to raise Timor – Leste ‘s profile as a producer of high-quality organic coffee and further promote agriculture tourism.
On 12 february Minister Magno and delegation had the opportunity to travel to Griffith, New South Wales, to visit 17 Timorese workers that have been making excellent contributions at Mossmont Nurseries. The Minister was thoroughly impressed with the skills displayed by the workers with Business Manager Jonathan Moss describing the workers as the “Backbone” of the Business. Moss highlighted his intention to bring more Timorese workers in the future.
Minister Magno continued the working visit in Darwin on 14 february, starting with a visit to Tou ‘s Garden Mango Farm. Tou ‘s Garden has hosted Timorese seasonal workers for a number of years. The owner similarly expressed their satisfaction with workers and their intention to hire more Timorese workers.
On 15 february Minister Magno was honored to joint with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce AC and Northern Territory Chief Minister, The Hon, Michael Gunner to announce that Qantas will now operate 3 permanent flights per week from march (Dili- Darwin), increasing to five per week from june.
“The benefit of this announcement in areas such as tourism and investment, as well as recognizing the benefit for Timorese accessing the Darwin – London route. With the Qantas’s flight, Timor–Leste invited all those present to visit Timor-Leste for tourism purposes to showcase the natural beauty, visit their family and culture,’’ Minister Magno said.
