DILI, 06 May 2026 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste condemns in the strongest possible terms Iran’s act of aggression on 4th May 2026 against the United Arab Emirates, which constitutes a blatant defiance and assault on international law and the UN Charter.

UAE defense forces successfully intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles, and 4 UAVs. This was yet another unprovoked attack by Iran against an Arab country not involved in the ongoing war involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.

“The UN General Assembly and Security Council should issue a formal warning to Iran to desist from further attacks against the GCC countries,” said in a statement.

Timor-Leste stands with the Government and people of the UAE against Iran’s repeated violations of the UAE’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

“As a nation that built on the ashes of occupation and the triumph of dialogue, Timor-Leste knows the true cost of aggression. These attacks on the UAE are not only an assault on a friendly nation but also a direct threat to regional peace and the rules-based international order that protects all states, big and small. We urge Iran to immediately halt its belligerence and choose the path of reason. The world cannot afford another spiraling conflict in the Gulf,” said President and Nobel Peace laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta.

Timor-Leste strongly urges all parties to return to the negotiating table and to seize every opportunity for de-escalation. Timor-Leste consistently recognizes that dialogue and reconciliation are the only paths to stability and a better future.
