DILI, 24 february 2022 (TATOLI) – Culture unites divergence to find the path to stability for the country and the people, said the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’, within the scope of the national seminar on the theme”Reflesaun Nasionál ho Espiritu Rekonsiliasaun, Konstrui no Konsolida Estadu RDTL”.
“The national language, Tetum, reflects expressions on existing cultural practice and the search for peace through dialogue and reconciliatory and awareness of different positions through expressions such as ‘dalan ba dame tuur hamutuk koa’lia ba malu-nahe biti boot’. These reflect the underlying reconciliatory spirit in our society”, he said during his speech at a seminar held by the National University of Timor-Leste, in Hera.
The Head of State also underlined that, in order to preserve stability and peace, within the scope of the powers assigned to him, he has sought to overcome crises through dialogue, reducing differences, in particular points of convergence.
“I never put differences aside or devalued them,” he said.
The President of the Republic recalled, however, that unity constitutes a determining value in the fight for the reaffirmation of the State.
“Unity only makes sense if there is development that brings well-being and a prosperous future to our people. There is no development without peace, without justice and without freedom”, he said.
According to Lú Olo, “freedom is the fundamental character of the State, which is why the country was named the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste”.
Finally, the President of the Republic added that the country has been able to face the pandemic crisis caused by covid-19, at the expense of dialogue, of knowing how to listen with humility to find solutions.
