Australia is committed to continue the bilateral cooperation with Timor-Leste in various sectors

DILI, 01 march 2022 (TATOLI)- Australian Ambassador to Timor – Leste, William Terrence Costello, held an official meeting with the Prime Minister of Timor – Leste Taur Matan Ruak to discuss the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

“We had a meeting today, during the meeting I informed Prime Minister Ruak, that Australia is committed to continue the bilateral cooperation that had been carried out previously,” Australian Ambassador Costello told TATOLI at the Prime Minister’s Residence Farol, Dili this tuesday.

Australian Ambassador Costello, added that, Australia is committed to support Timor-Leste in dealing with Covid-19 by sending the AstraZeneca vaccine to Timor – Leste, helping flood victims on 04 of april, 2021 and also the main priority that will be carried out is to continue to accept Timorese workers to work in agricultural gardens. Australia also supports infrastructure development such as irrigation for agricultural land, facilitates the students to get scholarships and continue to study in Australia.

In addition, Australia will work closely with the Governments of Timor – Leste and Japan to construct the International Nicolao Lobato, Comoro Airport, and build Hera Port. Australia will also support two new ships for Timor – Leste in 2022 and in early 2023 to the National Timor – Leste Army (F-FDTL) to be used in conducting the patrols in the Timor-Leste Sea to defend the country’s sovereignty.

Australia will continue to work closely with the Government in developing Timor-Leste in various aspects of the fields of Economy, Health, Oil and Gas, Education, Agriculture, Defense and Security, Infrastructure and others.

During the meeting the Australian Ambassador Costello, informed Australia’s position to condemn  Russia for the invasion and military attack on Ukraine which has killed many people in Ukraine.
