DILI, 06 march 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste’s Government representative, Minister of foreign affairs and cooperation (MoFAC), Adaljiza Magno left the country and had the bilateral meeting with the various entities around the world to address about Timor-Leste’s candidacy to the Human Rights Council for 2024-2026 and others.
On friday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Adaljiza Magno, paid a courtesy call to the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, at the United Nations Office in Geneva.
During the meeting, Minister Magno informed the former President of Chile about Timor-Leste’s candidacy to the Human Rights Council for 2024-2026.
“Both dignitaries shared ideas on the important role of the existing UN mechanisms to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights,” said an official statement released by MNEC adressed to Tatoli today.
Seizing the opportunity, Minister Magno briefed the High Commissioner about the government’s commitment on human rights, including Timor-Leste’s recent participation at the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review.
During the meeting Minister Magno was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Lurdes Bessa, Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations in New York, Mr. Karlito Nunes, and Advisor of the Minister, Natalia Sarmento.
