DILI, 09 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The United Nation Development Program (UNDP) in Timor–Leste work together with the Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat (STAE) in providing the briefing on the process of controlling the Presidential election on 19 march, which is followed by the fiscals officers from supporters of the Presidential candidate, political parties, national observers, international observers, Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Representatives of the Embassies in Timor–Leste.
“The Fiscals and observers received briefing on the process of the 2022 presidential election before going to the polls to conduct the fiscalization and observation of the presidential election on 19 March 2022,” STAE Director General Acilino Branco told TATOLI at the Hotel Timor Colmera, Dili this wednesday.
The general director of STAE, explained that, the role of fiscal officers and observers was very crucial because their task will control the entire electoral process up to the counting of votes and if any irregularities in the election, they can report that action on legal way.
“We wish a Presidential Election which is transparent, democratic, therefore the role of fiscal and observers are very crucial to control all electoral processes until to the vote counting, all fiscal from the Electoral Board, Fiscal officers from supporters of the candidate of the President Republic, from political parties, national observers and international observers are very crucial to ensure a successful election based on the democratic principles which is implemented in Timor–Leste,” STAE Director General Branco added.
At the same place, UNDP Resident Representative, Munktuya Altangerel, appreciates the efforts made by the STAE in conducting the election of the Presidential of the Republic on 19 march 2022 successfully.
“UNDP does not have the Fiscal and Observer to conduct fiscalization of the Presidential election but UNDP only supports the technical and logistical assistance to carry out the transparent and democratic elections in Timor – Leste,” said UNDP Resident Representative, Munktuya Altangerel.
The Fiscal Officer and the observers will receive a credential from STAE to a specific polling station and their credential document will also include the code on that polling center.
Fiscal officers must comply with election fiscal ‘s regulation and maintain impartiality. When conduct their duties, do not arbitrarily in a favor to one of the presidential candidates, fiscal officers must not use the symbols and other things related to the candidates represented by them, respect the constitution, laws, and other implementing regulations, communicating and collaborating with other fiscal officers in order that, the election process can run in a transparent and organized manner, shows credential cards when conducting election observations and fiscal officers do not influence electors to vote one the president ‘s candidates.
All the fiscal officer must be at the polling station center before the Election of Presidential Republic is commenced. The Presidential Republic‘s election will be held on 19 march, from 7: 00 o’clock to 15:00.
