KOICA trusts UNPAZ to conduct a survey on horticultural sector

DILI, 11 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has trusted and selected the Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ) to take responsibility for a data collection activity focused on the horticultural sector.

It is focused on farmer participation in horticultural agriculture which will be implemented in three villages. It is especially contributing to the Agricultural Value Chain Improvement Project.

KOICA’s Project Management Committee (PMC), Kim Jangsaeng explained, the project implementation will be carried out in 2022 to 2025.  KOICA decided to appoint UNPAZ to conduct a survey for a horticultural project.  UNPAZ is a competent and compatible institution for conducting surveys.

“We have to improve our achievements. We can afford to find very competent and compatible institutions that can advance our achievements, for example how many kg of potatoes they produce, and we found UNPAZ is one of the best universities in TL. We are going to work harder for the achievement of our main project,” Kim explained to Tatoli at the Ministry of Finance this Thursday.

He added that the survey process will be carried out in three different stages starting from the baseline, middle line and end line, besides that the main institutions in Korea and UNPAZ will work more closely to find programs in local areas in TL and do academic work.

 The project is funded by the South Korean Government through KOICA for $6 million which will support three villages such as Seloi Kraik village in Aileu, Horai-ki’ik in Ainaro and Kamele-Horu in Liquiça.

This project will be beneficial for 420 farmers in Seloi Kraik, 6,300 farmers in Horai-ki’ik and 450 farmers in Kamele-Horu.

The collaboration between KOICA and UNPAZ was inaugurated with the signing of a memorandum of understanding held at the Ministry of Finance Building, this morning.

The Chancellor of UNPAZ, Adolmando Amaral appreciated KOICA’s decision to choose UNPAZ university to work on survey collection and data will be processing and analyzing the output.

 “The output of this project will measure the financial support provided by KOICA will give the impact for local agriculture in rural areas, especially in three villages,” he said.

Rector Adolmando informed that a result will be provided as a recommendation to the government and other institutions as well for KOICA.
