DILI, 15 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The Secretariat of Technical Administration Electoral (STAE) has registered the election for 800 prisoners who live in the prison of Becora, Dili municipality, Gleno, Ermera and Suai Covalima to participate in the election of President of the Republic on march 19, 2022.
This declaration was stated by the General Director of STAE, Acilino Manuel Branco to TATOLI at his office, Cai – Coli, Dili on this tuesday.
“There are 509 registered inmates from Becora Prison, consisting of 130 prison guards, 379 prisoners, and 85 temporary prisoners. They will participate in the 2022 presidential election,” Acilino said.
STAE also registered 106 voters from Gleno Prison, composed of 35 guards and 71 prisoners. Meanwhile, there are 32 prisoners who have not submitted their identity cards, seven of them do not have identity cards therefore they will not exercise their right to vote in the Presidential election of the Republic on 19 march 2022.
In Suai Prison, 149 voters have been registered, consisting of 37 prison guards and 112 prisoners.
On the other hand, the voters registered at STAE for the entire national territory of Timor – Leste and the Diaspora are 859,613 voters. Of these, 852,500 voters were nationally and 7,119 diaspora voters.
Diaspora voters consist of 1,487 voters in Australia, 1,277 voters in South Korea, 1,264 voters in Northern Ireland, 857 voters in Portugal and 2,234 voters in the United Kingdom (UK).
