DILI, 17 march 2022 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak called on Timorese people to exercise their democratic rights in saturday’s Presidential Election, urging all citizens to maintain peace and stability during the election.
“I have two special messages for Timorese people regarding the march 19 presidential election. I would like to call on all citizens to fully participate in saturday’s election. Next, I want all Timorese people to contribute to ensuring peace and stability during the election,” Prime Minister Ruak told reporters after his regular meeting with the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’, at the Palace of the President, in Dili, today.
Ruak said it’s a privilege for Timor-Leste as a new country to run the Presidential Election peacefully: “Therefore, all citizens must participate in this presidential election by casting their vote peacefully.”
Ruak expressed his contentment following a peaceful two-week presidential election campaign across 13 municipalities, and RAEOA.
“I am pleased as the two-week Presidential Election campaign was going well,” Ruak said.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ruak presented to President Lú Olo’ about the government’s evaluation of the two-week presidential election campaign.
“I also informed President Lú Olo that we have decided to reopen the entry and exit points at the border zone. The visitors and newcomers will need only to present their vaccination cards to enter the national territory,” he stressed.
He said Lú Olo supported all the decisions taken by the Council of Ministers on the approval of decree-laws, etc.
