DILI, 21 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The President of the National Election Commission (CNE) José Agustinho Belo, declared that, until now it has not been confirmed that, the 2022 Presidential election will take place in two rounds or not because vote counting is still ongoing and until now voter‘s data has not been included in the national verification of CNE’s data.
“I still haven’t commented on the 2022 Presidential election, whether there will be a second round or not because the national vote count is still ongoing and still no election data which had been entered in the verification of the CNE’s database,” the President of CNE, José Agustinho Belo, told TATOLI in Hotel Timor, Colmera, Dili on this monday.
The President of CNE Belo, emphasized that CNE was always ready to organize a two-round election if the 16 presidential candidates did not meet a 50+1 majority vote.
“CNE and the Secretariat of Technical Administration of Election (STAE) are always ready to hold the 2022 Presidential election in two rounds if no one fulfills the 50+1 requirement in the march 19 Presidential election last saturday ,” President of CNE Belo, added.
Up to now, the preliminary count has reached 91.75% but there is no presidential candidate who reached the target of 50+1.
The higher achievement votes was still led by the candidate of Presidential of the Republic José Ramos Horta, with 251,964 votes (45.76%), Francisco Guterres “Lú Olo,” got 126,244 votes (22.7%), Armanda Berta dos Santos, got 50,586 votes (9, 12 %), Lere Anan Timur, got 41,680 votes (7.51%), Mariano Assanami Sabino, got 40,986 votes (7.39 %), Anacleto Fereira, got 11,554 (2.08 %), Martinho Gusmao, got 7,680 (1.38% ), Hermes da Rosa Correia Barros, got 6,690(1.21%) votes, Milena Pires, got 3,924 votes (0.71%), Isabel Ferreira got, 3,623(0.65%) votes, Felisberto Arujo Duarte, got 3,623 votes (0, 42 %), Constancio Pinto, got 2,207(0.40%) votes, Rogerio Tiago Lobato, got 1,833 votes (0.33 %), Virgio Guterres, got 1,464 votes (0.26%), Antero Benedito, got 1,349 votes (0.24 %) and finally Angela Freitas got 617(0.11%) votes.
The total number of votes that have been counted is 554,728 electors, however out of the 16 presidential candidates there are no 50 +1%, therefore its possibility to have a second round of the Presidential election which will be held on april 19, 2022.
