U.S. grants $36 million to support Timor-Leste’s development

DILI, 24 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of United States (U.S.)  through the organization of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided a $36 million grant to support the development in Timor – Leste.

Rui Agusto Gomes, as the Minister of Finance, said this, in a meeting of the Council of Ministers which is led by the Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak.

To reporters, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, after the Council of Ministers Meeting said that the assistance and grants were provided with the aim of contributing to the development of Timor – Leste.

It said that the Council of Ministers meeting approved an additional budget contribution from $17 million to $36 million from the U.S. through USAID to Timor – Leste.

“The Council of Ministers decided to ratify the conclusion of the first amendment to the agreement on financial contributions for development purposes from the U.S. through USAID to Timor-Leste,” Fidelis Magalhães, told reporters at the Palace Government, Dili this wednesday.

It explained that this amendment aims to review the contribution that will be made by the U.S. under the agreement, from $17,900,000.00 to $36,558,837.00.

“The Council of Ministers decided to give the full power to the Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste to sign that agreement.
