EU EOM will continue to observe the second-round of 2022 Presidential elections in Timor–Leste

DILI, 29 march 2022 (TATOLI)- More than 30 observers from the European Union (EU) Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) left today for the municipalities in order to continue monitoring the second round of the electoral process, which will take place from 02 of april to 16 of april.

 “We go to the municipalities in across the Timor – Leste today to observe the second round  of presidential elections from  02 of april to 16 of april to observe directly  the process of  campaign, until the Presidential election which will be held on 19 of april  2022, to ensure a presidential election that is fairly, transparently in accordance with the values ​​of democratization in Timor – Leste,” Deputy Chief of Mission, Alexander Ian Gray told TATOLI at Hotel Timor, Colmera, Dili, on this tuesday.

Deputy Chief of Mission Gray, explained that, after arriving at the municipalities the EUEOM delegation team will remain continue to meet with the National Electoral Commissioners (CNE) and the heads of the Technical Secretariat of the Electoral Administration (STAE) and related institutions to cooperate in facilitating the transparent and honest of the second round of the Presidential ‘s elections in accordance with the conscience of the voters.

Before the Presidential campaign commence, EU EOM will continue to meet with the CNE, STAE and related institutions, continue to introduce the EU EOM mission in the municipalities to adapt the work of EU EOM to related institution with the objective in smoothing the 2022 Presidential election on the second round, which will take place on 19 of april 2022,” Deputy Head of Mission added.

EU EOM is highly appreciating the Government of Timor-Leste through the CNE and STAE for inviting EUEOM to conduct direct political, judicial and economic observations on the 2022 Presidential election in Timor – Leste.

“The EU EOM delegation consists of more than 30 people, from 17 countries in Europe who have experience being observers of elections in various countries, and today we are going to municipalities to carry out observer missions again of the second round of the 2022 Presidential election ‘s campaign which will be held on 02 of april to 16 april’’.

Deputy Chief of Mission Gray, explained that each municipality will maintain two observers, the same as the 2022 Presidential election on 19 march ago.

The EUEOM delegation will stay in each municipality to observe the second round of the 2022Presidential election process, commence from the campaign process until the Presidential election on 19 april 2022, and after that will write the reports and recommendations to the government through CNE and STAE to consider in the further election in Timor–Leste.
