DILI, 01 april 2022 (TATOLI) – Chargé d’Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Timor-Leste, Yudith Sanchez Espinosa met with the State Secretary for Youth and Sports (SEJD), Abrão Saldanha, to talk about preparation for the celebration of the 20 years anniversary of bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Cuba.
“During the meeting, we talked about those sports activities that will be organized to celebrate the 20 years of the bilateral relations of the two countries,” the State Secretary for Youth and Sports (SEJD), Abrão Saldanha told reporters after the meeting at SEJD, in Dili, today.
Saldanha said at the meeting both parties also talked about the two Cuban lecturers who will come to support Lorosa’e National Universities (UNTL) and SEJD with the development of the physical education curriculum etc.
At the same place, Espinosa said that: “Today, we have the opportunity to exchange with his excellency Abrão Saldanha on a number of the top priorities in the area of sports.
At the meeting, both parties also discussed the possibility of developing an agreement to send around 50 Timorese people to study in Cuba.
“We discussed extensively the possibility of sending a number of Timorese students to Cuba to do their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the area of sport. So, we are thinking about providing this special opportunity for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of our bilateral relations,” she said.
These Timorese would be doing their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the areas of sports, cultural and physical education.
Espinosa added both parties haven’t reached a final decision to decide exactly when to send these Timorese to Cuba.
