DILI, 04 abril 2022 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE), through the National Directorate of Foreign Employment (DNEE), conducted an Interview Skills Training for 25 Timorese female workers.
The Director of DNEE, Filomeno Soares said that SEFOPE in collaboration with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), the Pacific Australia Labor Mobility (PALM), and the Pacific Labor Facility (PLF) realized the Interview Skills Training for 25 Timorese female workers with the aim to increase the number of Timorese female workers in Australia.
“The training aims to facilitate more women to work in Australia. Because, according to SEFOPE’s latest data, of all Timorese workers in Australia, men outnumbered their female counterparts,” Soares said at the opening of the training at East-Timor Development Agency (ETDA), in Dili, today.
For instance, in 2019, we had only one female worker out of 19 Timorese seasonal workers who were sent to Australia at that time. Meanwhile, in 2020, out of the 540 workers, 423 were men and we only had 117 female workers.
He said the majority of the women who had been sent to Australia came from four municipalities, namely Dili, Baucau, Ermera, and Lautem.
“In collaboration with the APTC, PALM and PLF, we would put more effort into increasing the number of Timorese female workers in the future,” he stressed.
He explained that the Interview Skills Training would help to level up the interview skills of Timorese young women as well as to improve their English language skills to be able to perform well when having interviews with Australian employers.
Soares added Interview Skills Training was the first training to be conducted by DNEE, saying more training would be carried out in the municipalities to help rural young women whose names have already been listed on the SEFOPE’s Seasonal Workers Program (SWP).
