The European Union project PROCULTURA PALOP-TL aims to train university professors and students in the use of children’s literature as a teaching-learning resource.

The Portuguese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Manuela Bairos, stressed that this initiative will contribute to strengthening the training of teachers and future teachers “to the extent that training is provided in Portuguese, but with a focus on an area as noble as literature children and youth”, said the ambassador on the sidelines of the opening session of the training, at the Cultural Center of the Embassy of Portugal in Dili.

Manuela Bairos recalled the Portuguese Executive’s commitment to linguistic and literary training, as Portugal has a long-standing relationship with UNTL – a public university in Timor-Leste, that its vision committed to train and graduate its students with a high intellectual level, predisposed to research and scientific pursuit, to provide the trainees with human values that are fruitful for the national conscience, providing them with a sense of service in favor of the well-being and prosperity of fellow citizens, including to promote understanding, harmony and solidarity between cultures and peoples.

The Counselor for Political Affairs of the European Union Delegation in Timor-Leste, Dorthe Wacker, said, in turn, that the organization is proud to support PROCULTURA in its actions and activities aimed at providing a better future for children in Timor-Leste.

“Teaching a passion for books is the most important thing you can teach a child. With a passion for books, choices increase, new worlds appear, and the future opens up in a much wider and more colorful way,” She said.
