DILI, 26 april 2022 (TATOLI) – Chargé d’Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Timor-Leste, Yudith Sanchez Espinosa reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to strengthen bilateral ties with Timor-Leste in the health sector.
Espinosa made the comments after meeting the newly elected President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, at his Cabinet, in Farrol, Dili, today.
“It was a fruitful and friendly meeting. During the meeting, Horta shared with us his point of view on the result of the election. We are honored to share with Ramos Horta and he showed his wiliness to strengthen Timor-Leste’s relations with Cuba in the health sector,” she said.
On behalf of the Cuban government, Espinosa reaffirmed Cuban commitment to support the Government of Timor-Leste in providing capacity building and training for the Timorese doctors.
“Improving Timor-Leste’s health sectors is part of our main bilateral relation with this country. Since the establishment of the bilateral relations with Timor-Leste 20 years ago, Cuba has produced more than 1.000 doctors and 40 specialty doctors,” he stressed.
She reiterated that Cuba will always show its wiliness and commitment to continue supporting the government of Timor-Leste to improve the nation’s healthcare service delivery by increasing the number of human resources in the health sector.
“We will keep supporting the government of Timor-Leste to continue producing more doctors and specialty physicians. Cuba is willing to take more Timorese doctors to pursue their specialty in Cuba,” she said.
At the meeting, Espinosa also congratulated Timor-Leste’s newly elected president Jose Ramos Horta for scoring the landslide victory in the presidential election.
