The government begins to discuss the policy of intervention for basic needs’ prices

DILI, 03 May 2022 (TATOLI)– Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, this Tuesday held a meeting with the Minister of Tourism and Industry (MTCI), José Lucas do Carmo Silva, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF), Abilio Xavier de Araujo, and Secretary Fisheries State, Elidio de Araujo, to discuss the policy and the intervention in the price of basic commodities in the market.

In addition, the Government will also provide credit to distributors who distribute necessities to offer normal prices to consumers.

MTCI Minister Lucas do Carmo said the Prime Minister assessed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has the right and responsibility to increase domestic production and MTCI only strengthens producers and how regulates sales in the market.

“We are discussing with the Prime Minister regarding the productivity through the coordination of the line of ministers,” Lucas do Carmo Silva told reporters at the Prime Minister Residence Farol’s, Dili, Tuesday.

To implement this strategic policy, MTCI will submit proposals at the meeting of the Council of Ministers for the revision of some laws and regulations also will make resolutions to establish a line of coordination, to respond to the increasing the prices for the basic needs in Timor-Leste.

“Prices of basic goods are increased. thus the Prime Minister Ruak wishes to work together to strike a balance and intervene on the increasing of the price of basic commodities,” he says.

The basic food program is also an alternative to intervention in the price of goods in the market.
