DILI, 5 may 2022 (TATOLI) – The President-elect of Timor-Leste for the period of 2022-2027, José Ramos Horta, congratulates the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), which celebrates World Portuguese Language Day.
“I join with all people included of Portuguese-speaking communities who are living across various continents of the world, starting with Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia, a message of brotherhood, solidarity and having a shared history,” The new president of the Democracy Republic of Ramos Horta told reporters. The new head of State stated that today everyone celebrates the same language from Europe to the East, through Latin America, Africa, and millions of Portuguese speakers spread across Europe, North America, and other countries where Timorese, Portuguese, Brazilians, and Portuguese-speaking Africa.
‘A warm embrace of brotherhood from Dili, Timor-Leste’, he concluded. Since 2009, the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) has celebrated May 5 as the day of Portuguese language and culture within the organization.
In 2019, the date was ordained by UNESCO as world Portuguese language day, which is a truly historic milestone in people’s lives.
