DILI, 15 june 2022 (TATOLI) – The TANE Consumer Association requested the government’s Minister of Trade and Industry (MTCI) to set a standard price for local products in the market, saying that the prices for local products in the market are different.
According to Ramos, the price of local products is determined by the Farmers or Resellers and they do not have a standard price for local products.
“We don’t have any standard for a market price for local products, the price range between local and imported products is different,”
Ramos explained that TANE routinely conducts price surveys for local products in the market every four months and the results show that there is no fixed price for local products, where local prices are more expensive than imported products.
“A legal framework is needed to come up with the right decision to set prices for all local products. Without a standard price for local products, consumers will buy imported products instead of local products and the price of local products must be reasonable to ensure consumers can buy local products and consume our local products,”
At the same time, Ramos also said that it is important for the Responsible Ministry to update the prices of local products in the market every week, as a policy to promote and ensure consumers update the prices of the domestic market to encourage economic development and achieve the government’s sustainability goals.
Meanwhile, Ramos also considers several reasons why local products are more expensive than imported products, among others, because local products are organic and rich in nutrients and vitamins, while other reasons are also due to the limited number.
So far, TANE has focused its survey on local products such as rice and chicken.
“The local price for 1 kg of rice is $1.50 and the import price for 1 kg of rice is 0.50 cents, while for local chicken is $10.00 and imported chicken is $0.3,” Ramos said.
