DILI, 09 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Foreign Minister, Adaljiza Magno has held a bilateral discussion with her Bruneian counterpart Erywan Yusof to send Timorese workers to Brunei Darussalam.
“During my visit to Brunei Darussalam, I met with my Bruneian counterpart Erywan Yusof, including the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah himself to talk about strengthening Brunei-Timor-Leste bilateral relations to send Timorese workers to Brunei Darussalam,” Minister Magno made the comments after returning from her diplomatic trips, at Dili’s Airport, today.
Magno said a business-to-business contract has been signed between East Timor Development Agency (ETDA) and a Bruneian company: “More than 100 young Timorese have been trained at ETDA and ready to be departed for Brunei Darussalam to work in hotels, etc.”
On thursday, the Director of ETDA, Januario Neto Mok revealed that next month, ETDA will send 120 young Timorese workers to Brunei Darussalam.
“I have visited Brunei Darussalam several times and discussed with a number of international companies who are willing to take young Timorese workers to work in their hotels and restaurants,” Mok said on thursday (07/07).
He said these 120 workers will be working as restaurant chefs, bartenders, food delivery, etc.
“Apart from making money, these young people will also have the opportunity to learn new skills which will help them to run their own business in Timor-Leste one day,” said Mok.
Johannes Bosco, a young Timorese who will be departing for Brunei Darussalam next month said he has gained enough knowledge and skills in hospitality to work in Brunei Darussalam.
