MMT and Gov’t discuss the continuation of the program on health and education literacy

DILI, 15 july 2022 (TATOLI)– Merry Mackillops Today (MMT) is consulting with the government Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), the Minister of Health (MoH), and other development partners on the continuation of the three-year program of Education and Health literacy from 2022 to 2025.

“Today we held a consultation meeting with the Government’s Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Minister of Health, and other relevant partners to discuss the achievements of project implementation in the previous years 2017 and 2022 about education and health literacy for teacher, students and parents while looking forward to the next implementation,” Country Director of MMT, Alipio Baltazar told reporters in Vila Verde.

According to Baltazar, in the discussion, they focused on four important programs, including; Tetun Literacy Training for Teachers, School Health Literacy Training, Mobile Libraries, and Parent Training.

“These programs help teachers, children, and parents to improve their skills in educational and health literacy while enabling them to understand classroom management, teaching pedagogy, and improving the reading skills of children,”

In the same place the President of INFORDEPE, Manuel Gomes de Araújo said that the Minister of Education assessed that the MMT education program had a positive impact on children, students, and parents in recent years.

“The current output has a good impact on teachers, being able to manage and control the class and even provide good guidance for students to focus on reading, writing, and speaking,” said Araujo.

School Health Officer from the Ministry of Health, Rita Maria Soares appreciated the MMT program on Health Literacy, saying that the program implemented in the two municipalities, Manufahi and Ermera has good progress because 65 parents in Fatukeru, Emera municipality were able to read and write.

So far reports from MMT show that the program has benefited from 2017-2022, with over 806 students and 3,000 teachers from five municipalities Dili, Ermera, Liquiça, Viqueque, and Manufahi.
