16 Timorese workers will leave for Dubai next week

DILI, 23 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE) and Cammer PC travel agency of ​​the Incanto group, will send 16 East Timorese workers to the United Arab Emirates next Monday (UAE).

The Director of Incanto Group, Joanico Jerónimo informed that the agency is working in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), SEFOPE, and Timor representatives at Expo Dubai to recruit workers from Timor-Leste.

“We recruited 300 workers. of the number 120 will leave for Dubai in the next month while 16 are all set to move to Dubai this Monday. These Timorese will work in the hotel industry,” said Jerónimo, at Timor Plaza, Dili.

According to Jerónimo, contracts, departure and return tickets to Timor-Leste, as well as accommodation, transportation and meals are the responsibility of the agency.

The official said each worker would receive a monthly minimum wage of US$500, in addition to any benefits.

Joanico Jerónimo highlighted the need for workers and their families to be informed about travel tickets, working conditions, housing, and contracts.

“Timorese who wishes to work overseas should confirm the information with SEFOPE to avoid trouble”, he warns.

Director General of SEFOPE, Paulo Alves said, sending workers to Dubai could not be separated from the efforts of the Expo Dubai 2020 team.

“SEFOPE has met with Jobs Global to discuss the issue of continuing to send workers to Dubai,” he added.

According to Alves, SEFOPE does not allow recruitment agencies to make contracts lasting more than two years.
