DILI, 31 august 2022 (TATOLI) – The Permanent Commission of the National Parliament on wednesday authorized the State visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, to Australia and the USA in September.
“The visit of the Head of State to Australia and the USA was approved with 26 votes in favor, no abstentions, and no votes against. Therefore, today the MPs of the Permanent Commission of the National Parliament approve the resolution of the State visit of Horta to Australia and the USA,” the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Guterres said at the Parliament House on wednesday.
The resolution was approved following Horta’s request to travel to Australia from 3 to 11 september to respond to the invitation of the Australian governor, David Hurley.
The President of the Republic will also travel to the US from 21 to 30 to participate in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77). The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 20 september 2022.
It is President Horta’s second State visit abroad since taking office in may 2022.
President Horta’s first international presidential trip was to Indonesia, where he discussed and strengthened bilateral cooperation with his Indonesian counterpart, Joko Widodo.
