DILI, 06 september 2022 (TATOLI) – The representative of the Diocese of Atambua, Kupang, Father Felix Costad congratulates His Eminence Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva following his elevation as the first Cardinal of Timor-Leste in the consistory ceremony on august 27, in the Vatican – Rome.
On behalf of Bishop Dominukus Saku and the Catholics of Atambua, Kupang, Flores, and all Catholics in Indonesia, Father Felix Costad congratulated His Eminence Cardinal Virgilio do Carmo da Silva, who united all Catholics Timor-Leste and West Timor.
“The elevation of His Eminence Cardinal Virgilio has united us and is a gift from Almighty God. We are all proud and will continue to work together to promote the Catholic Church. We will also cooperate with the Government of Timor-Leste to build Timor-Leste,” Fr Costad told TATOLI after the Mass of Gratitude presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Virgilio in Tasitolu, Dili, on Tuesday.
Fr. Costad said there are many Timorese Catholics in Atambua, Kupang, Flores, and throughout Indonesia.
“They are very proud because it is the first time that a religious leader from Timor-Leste has been chosen by Pope Francis as one of his Cardinals to spread the Gospel to the world, including Timor-Leste and Indonesia,” he said.
Father, Felix Costad hoped that the Diocese of Atambua would continue to work together with His Eminence Cardinal Virgilio to spread the Gospel of God.
