DILI, 06 september 2022 (TATOLI) – The representative of the Diocese of Atambua, Father Felix Costad said the elevation of Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva unites the Christian Catholics of Timor Island.
The Cardinal is a senior member of the clergy and high diplomats of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God to bring the fire of God’s love to all.
“His Eminence Virgilio do Carmo da Silva has united us to spread the Gospel of Almighty God to the world because Christians are the salt of the earth,” Father Costad told TATOLI in Dili on tuesday.
At the same place, the Head of the Organizing Committee, Father Guilhermino da Silva, said that the presence of the representative of the Diocese of Atambua was due to the fact that the Catholics of West Timor and Timor-Leste share the same island.
“This is the first time in Timor-Leste’s history that a religious leader from the island of Timor has been chosen as a cardinal,” he said.
Felix Costad was the only delegation from abroad to attend the Mass of Gratitude which was presided over by Cardinal Virgílio.
In addition, representatives from foreign embassies in Timor-Leste also attended the mass of gratitude, including Portugal, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
