DILI, 09 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The United States Chargé d’Affaires, Tom Daley handed over 160 patrol kits to the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) in Covalima Municipality.

The patrol kits include individual first aid, safety equipment, and a field guide for detecting and addressing potential victims of human trafficking.

The equipment helps strengthen law enforcement in the Covalima municipality, one of Timor-Leste’s border districts.  It also helps advance Timor-Leste’s efforts to combat human trafficking through increased investigations, arrests, convictions, and victim identification.

“As this year marks both the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Timor-Leste independence as well as of diplomatic relations between our two countries, we strive to continually strengthen our growing relationship,” said Chargé d’Affaires Tom Daley in a statement released on wednesday.

“The United States welcomes every opportunity to continue strengthening PNTL’s practice of effective law enforcement to protect the dignity and human rights of the Timorese people, local communities, and people of all nationalities and origins in Timor-Leste, and stands ready to partner together to ensure victims and vulnerable individuals receive the assistance they need,” Chargé d’Affaires Daley added.

Apart from the handover, Chargé d’Affaires also visited USAID Funded Community Health Center, participated in the YSEALI (Young Southeast Asia Leadership Initiative) soft-skills training, and toured the Community Based Rehabilitation Network Timor-Leste that oversees an Ambassador’s Small Grant Fund project.
