DILI, 13 september 2022 (TATOLI) – The Country Manager of a privately owned Australian oil and gas company, Timor Resources, Filomeno Andrade said NEPEAN Group is willing to support Timor-Leste to build the country’s oil patch in the future.
“NEPEAN Group is one of the world leaders in mining equipment, building and infrastructure products, engineering services, and transport equipment. For example, if the Greater Sunrise project is developed in Timor-Leste’s onshore, then the NEPEAN Group is ready to support this country,” Andrade told TATOLI after meeting with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, in Dili, today.
Andrade said that in the near future, the founder and managing director of Timor Resources, and the director of the NEPEAN Group, Suellen Osborne, will meet with Prime Minister Ruak to discuss the matter further.
“We can build an oil industry in the country that will stimulate our economic growth, and create employment opportunities for the Timorese people,” he said.
Andrade emphasized that the oil industry could be built in the southwestern part of the country, where the Beaçu LNG plant was designed to process natural gas from the Greater Sunrise project.
“Timor-Leste can start with the refinery plant. So, Prime Minister Ruak and Mrs. Suellen will discuss this further in the future,” Andrade said.
Timor-Leste is now facing enormous challenges as the oil and gas revenues that have supported the country for the past decade are expected to run dry this year.
Recently, the Timorese government and the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, have conveyed the country’s position to process gas from the massive Greater Sunrise offshore field in Timor-Leste instead of Darwin.
