NEW YORK, 22 september 2022 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta with his delegations arrived on Thursday (22/09, in New York, to participate in the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Upon his arrival in America, the President held a meeting with the Portuguese Prime Minister, discussing Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN which emphasizes a grand opportunity for the Portuguese companies in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, canning, and shoe industries among others, including the warehouses in Timor-Leste to supply international market comprising US$700 million, in which it is a high purchasing power.
In the afternoon session, the President welcomed the Counsellor of the United States Department of State, Derek Chollet, and other senior officials from the State Department. The meeting predominantly focused on global concerns, tragic situations, and the inadmissible situation in Myanmar.
Moreover, International communities, including journalists who are distracted by the war in Ukraine and the people of Myanmar are abandoned.
President Horta and Charismatic leader Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão are currently in New York. They met with other leaders to talk about the global situation, and the incapability of the multilateral Systems to attend to the challenges and the impacts encountered by fragile states and other nations.
