DILI, 10 october 2022 (TATOLI) – The government and Tibar Port company along with the importing companies conducted one week of operational testing for the movement of containers and related logistics materials in the new port of Tibar.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, António Freitas, explained the detail of this assessment, saying the focus was on the loading and unloading of containers, payment of levies and taxes, as well as other aspects to be the appropriate function to accelerate the operation of the new port.

“We have heard the concerns of several importing companies about the port service system when they submitted complaints about the movement of loading and unloading goods. We welcome all the concerns and suggestions to improve the operating system of the port”, said Freitas, in Tíbar.

According to Freitas, the service system at Tíbar Port is sophisticated, enabling the acceleration service for loading and unloading of containers and offering active services through an electronic system.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Port of Timor SA, Laurent Palayer, said the service system in the new port is different from the Dili port saying it is equipped with the latest IT innovations.

Therefore He added that the recommendations provided by the private sector will be counted to improve the port service system for more effective services.

On the other hand, the director of the Jacinto Group company, Clarisa Lay, was disappointed with the unloading process in the new port saying the container unloading process has not followed the decision of the Bolloré company and the Government, adding that there were several obstacles detected such as the issuance of documents.

“The contract specified that the unloading of each container takes 45 minutes while in one day the port can unload up to 500 containers, but this did not happen. We know that the harbor is only a week old. The company has clarified some of the issues we had doubts about. We hope our concerns are taken into account,” She said.

So far the activities in Tibar Port started on September 30 and the inauguration will take place on November 28.
