DILI,25 october 2022 (TATOLI)– Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) and Partners European Union (EU) and the National Authorising Officer ( NAO) held National Indicative Programme Steering Committee Meeting ( NIP- SCM) today to discuss the implementation of the program funded by EU on the 11th European Union Development Fund (EDF) with the stakeholders.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, (MoFAC), Adalzija Magno, informed, that at the meeting both Timor-Leste and its partners focused the discussion on addressing the two focal sectors of the National Indicative Programme, which compasses of rural development and good governance, as well as the most prominent thematic Programmes dealing with environment and climate change.
” The Government of Timor – Leste recognize and appreciate the role of the European Union as one of the largest Development Partner which Timor – Leste has shared an excellent political relationship and always together to consolidate Democracy, Peace, and Development with respect to Human rights and jointly promote the principles for saving our planet as our common home. The Annual National Indicative Program Steering Committee Meeting is on the platform where the government, the European Union, and cooperating development partners meet every year to evaluate and discuss the implementation progress and achievements of the programs signed between the government and European Union,” The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adalzija Magno told TATOLI at the office of MoFAC, Pantai Kelapa on tuesday.
At the same place, the Ambassador of the European Union to Timor – Leste, Marc Friedrich said for the EU its a privilege to work hand in hand with a partner like Timor – Leste to defend democracy, human rights, multilateralism, and the rule of law.
” These are public goods that we cannot take for granted. The EU will continue to partner with Timorese people and government to help ensure that the country prospers,” said the Ambassador of the European Union Marc Friedrich.
This Steering Committee aims to achieve the best possible coordination in the implementation of the ongoing projects (2014-2020), financed by the European Union, through the sharing of information between the parties involved.
It is also an opportunity to share and comment on the level of preparation of the new programs under the new Multiannual Indicative Program for Timor – Leste ( MIP 2021- 2027), included in the financial instrument for cooperation Neighbourhood Development Cooperation and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI).
The implementation of the actions included in the Multiannual Indicative Program is an important step in reinforcing the EU’s s cooperation with Timor – Leste. It will enable the EU and Timor – Leste to continue working together on programs and projects that are built on shared objectives principles and values.
The new program has two main priorities: Priority :
1- Green and sustainable economic recovery and development; Priority -2 Good Governance and sustainable development. For the first phase, from 2021- 2024, the UE collected EUR 55 million.
