DILI, 26 october 2022 (TATOLI)– The State Secretary for the Environment (SSE) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (SoEYS) celebrated National Environment Day by giving awards to the winning schools of the 2022 Green School program.
The National Day for Environmental is celebrated every October 25.
Amenica Machado Fernandes, National Director of the Environmental Education and Training Center, said that SEA has two important programs, namely the Green School Program and the Favorite School Green, so both programs have been implemented in the schools, however, for this year, seven schools are qualified orderly to be awarded by SEA.
“Seven qualified schools are St. Antonio Manatutu Middle School, 4 de Setembro Balide Middle School, Dili, Don Martinho Da Costa Lopes school, Fatutu Manufahi Elementary School, Caisait Elementary School, Liquica, Esperansa Da Patria Becora Elementary School, Dili, and the Salele Covalima Elementary School,” said Fernandes in his remarks at Bidau Metiaut, Tuesday.
The first runner-up of these programs will be awarded certification, rotation cup, and cash awards while the second and remaining winners will receive cash awards.
Fernandes explained that among the schools the team has identified the school that deserves the first award as the best school implementing this program, and the rest of the winners will receive the awards following the evaluation results from the team.
“The evaluation team evaluated based on the evaluation parameters such as the school environment, school parks, school structures, classrooms, etc. so these physical parameters are used to evaluate the role of implementing green school programs,” she said.
At the same time, Secretary of State for Environment Diametru Amaral said SEA is dedicated to promoting green environmental programs across the country.
“We have to preserve a green environment to provide more benefit for the Timorese people and being bioliterate with nature,” said Amaral.
Therefore, he said, the green school competition encourages all new generations to work hard for the protection and preservation of the green environment.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Armindo Maia appreciated the implementation of the green school program, saying this program helps students and teachers to participate in preserving their school gardens by planting more useful plants to support the learning process.
“This is a great program that can connect humans with nature and it is good management that can help us reduce waste as well, while a green school environment will also encourage students to study hard and become potential students to qualify as a new generation of the nation,” he said.
So far, SEA and MoEYS have awarded seven schools with cash awards worth $13.750.
Following are the awards for the qualified school’s winners of the Green program and Favorite school program:
Favorite school program
First qualified school: Santo Antonio Manatutu is awarded the certification, the rotation cup includes the cash of $ .2750,
Second : 4 Setembro High School, Balide Dili – $2,500
Third: Don Martinho Da Costa Lopes with -$.2,000 in points
Green school program winners:
First Winner: Fatutu Manufahi Elementary School, – $2,000
Second winner : Basic School Caisait, Liquica – $.2,000,
Third: Esperanca Da Patria Becora Elementary School, Dili, -$1,500
The fourth winner: Salele Covalima Primary School- $1,000.
