DILI, 04 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The government of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers, approved US$8.9 for the construction of a metal structure arch bridge called Casnafar Bridge in Manleuana, connecting the municipalities of Dili and Aileu.
“The Council of Ministers, following the projects presented by the Minister of Public Works (MoP), Abel Pires, decided to authorize the procurement procedure for the international public tender, for the construction of the new Casnafar Bridge,” Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães said at the Palace of Government, today.
He said that the Casnafar River always poses threats to the communities and the movement of public transport linking the municipalities of Ailieu, Manufahi, Ainaro, and Covalima.
“Therefore, the government has decided to advance with the project for the construction of the new Cansnafar Bridge,” he said.
Magalhães informed that the estimated cost for the construction of the bridge is US$8.9 million: “It’s a metallic structure arch bridge.”
During the rainy season, the river tears up rocks and soil along its bed, making it difficult for communities to cross the river to the other side.
He added that the river used to wash people away in the past during the rainy season.
