DILI, 08 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The Bebeteka Todiana Library of the Xanana Gusmão Reading Room (XGRR) supported more than 200 children with various types of books to ensure early childhood brain development.
Bebteka Todiana Library assistant, Noel Lopes da Costa said that various types of books are available at the library to support children’s learning activities.
He said children’s books in the library include drawing books, storybooks, and picture books: “These books are in four different languages – English, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Tetum.”
“We also have different types of fiction and non-fiction books for children. These books are also vital for children to improve their brains at a very early age,” Costa told TATOLI, in Lecidere, Dili.
Costa said more than 2,000 children’s books are available in the library for children to learn: “Child development and early learning is important for them to perform well in the future.”
“In addition, we also have English and basic computer classes and a playground for children,” Costa said.
He added the children are very excited to learn and play in the library: “They have the opportunity to interact with other children. They communicate in English and Portuguese, and most of them love reading storybooks.”
At the same place, the manager of XGRR, Maria Amaral Guterres said that children are willing to learn and share information with other children to visit and learn at XGRR.
From january to october 2022, more than 4,000 visitors read books at XGRR, adding that every month, the library has more than 500 visitors.
The books had been donated by Care International, through the Lafaek program, including some books were given by Australia and New Zealand.
