DILI, 5 december 2022 (TATOLI)- United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) discussed with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak the topic of maternal health as an issue of preventing Malnutrition for mothers and children and youth issue.
The discussion was made between UNFPA Country Director, Pressia Arfin- Cabo and Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak at the meeting held in the Palace of Government.
“ We have a good discussion on the importance of maternal health and the issue of preventing mall nutrition, which also focused on children and mother nutrition, it is only the way to be successful for our nutrition strategy.’’ The UNFPA Country Director, Pressia Arfin-Cabo told journalists at Government Palace, this Monday.
According to Cabo, it requires increasing the assessment of antenatal care and postnatal care while giving the service, checking the nutrition of mother and child in every health facility, and ensuring the adolescent gets the right access to nutrition support.
“18.8% of our adolescent has anemia, which affected them when they get pregnant and also gives the risk to them at the time of giving birth, while it is also can affect the nutrition of the child,”
Cabo said another topic that is focused on the UNFPA proposal is the youth program to upgrade youth skills.
At this point, she explained that UNFPA is colliding with the task force in the UN, on how to respond to the youth. UNFPA also focuses on education for youth for reducing the unemployment rate in Timor-Leste by looking at the whole process including supporting the effective learning process for the youth, their health, their intelligencies, and participation in society.

In turn, Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak agrees to have integrated cooperation on one plan and strategy to work on both issues at the same time he encourages the Development Partner to scale up the implementation of the program.
