Twenty-five Peace Corps Volunteers coming to TL next year

DILI, 06 december 2022 (TATOLI) – Twenty-five Peace Corps Volunteers will arrive in Timor-Leste on january 22, 2023, revealed Peace Corps Country Director Jamie Fouss.

He said the 25 volunteers would be deployed to carry out volunteer work in three municipalities, including Bobonaro, Ermera, and Liquiça.

“These volunteers will live with the communities. They live with host families who will help them learn Timorese languages and culture,” Fouss told TATOLI, in Ermera after the celebration of International Volunteer Day.

He said the 25 volunteers would be working on two projects: “English Teacher Training and Community Economic Development.”

Fouss appreciated the international and national volunteers for their dedication and hard work in contributing to improving the lives of communities.

“It is wonderful to see people who are dedicated to helping this country improve. I am inspired every day to see so many enthusiastic and hardworking people coming up with really good ideas to help the people of Timor-Leste,” he said.

Fouss encouraged the Timorese people to help develop their country, whether they are young or old: “I think that when you are young, you get a lot of really good experience. Like, you learn good skills, you learn how to work with people, how to organize people, how to write project plans, and how to sell your ideas.”

International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2022 celebrates the theme of solidarity through volunteering. This campaign highlights the power of our collective humanity to drive positivity cha through volunteerism.

“I think we are celebrating the International Volunteer Groups that is currently working in Timor-Leste. We hope that we are contributing to helping Timor-Leste continue to develop and grow. And I would like to say that our presence here can inspire the youth to help the country”, he concluded.
