DILI, 14 november 2022 ( TATOLI)- The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of the National University of Timor Loro Sa’e (UNTL) Silviro Pinto Cabral, said that Timor – Leste’s economic growth will increase after Timor – Leste’s accession to the Association of Southeast Asia Nations ( ASEAN) in 2023.
“The movement of people in ASEAN will help Timor-Leste restore the country’s economy and the people’s economy because Timor-Leste will unite with over 661,826 million people in ASEAN to jointly sell their products through ASEAN free market competition,” UNTL Deputy Dean of Economics Cabral told TATOLI at campus Economic, Liceu, Dili.
He explained that a country’s economic growth grows because of the involvement of the people through business activities, buying and selling interactions, the involvement of transactions between countries and regions as well as the involvement of international and national companies.
“We don’t have a big industry yet, therefore Timor-Leste will cooperate with other ASEAN member countries through the cooperation between joint venture companies to open industrial factories in Timor-Leste to increase Timor-Leste’s economic growth in the future,” he said.
Deputy Dean UNTL Economic Faculty also appealed to Timorese companies to prepare their resources such as human resources, logistics, administration, trade-economic activities, and others to compete with the free competitive market in ASEAN by 2023.
Based on the ASEAN Statistical Yearbook 2021, the total population in the ASEAN region as of 2020 is around 661.826 million people with a population growth of 1.1 percent.\
