UNDP-MTTI presents prizes to winners of the 3rd 2022 Young Business Innovative Competition

DILI, 17 december 2022 (TATOLI) – The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, (MTTI), presented the prizes to the winners of the 3rd 2022 Young Business Innovative Competition of Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Skills (YEES) Project.

A total of nine young talented Timorese from across the country were eligible as the winners of the youth business innovation competition.

Minister of Tourism, Trade, and Industry, José Lucas do Carmo da Silva said the YEES project aimed to engage young people in job creation to contribute to economic diversification.

“The YEES project is key to identifying and supporting talented young Timorese to grow their businesses, which will provide employment opportunities for others in the country,” Silva said in Dili.

At the same place, UNDP Representative Munktuya Altangerel said that UNDP will continue to support MTTI through the YEES project.

Over 700 young people from all over the country participated in the competition, of which only nine were eligible as winners. The 700 competitors are from municipalities in the eastern region (Lautem, Viqueque, Baucau, and Manatuto), municipalities in the western region (Ermera, Liquiçá, and Bobonaro) and the municipalities in the central region (Aileu, Ainaro, and Covalima).

Three applicants from each region have been selected as winners of the 3rd 2022 Young Innovative Entrepreneurs Competition.

“So, we have a total of nine talented young Timorese who have become the winners of this competition. This competition is a good program designed to encourage our young people to develop their creativity, talent, and business skills,” said Minister Silva.

The winners will receive between US$3,500 and US$60,000 to run and develop their business ideas. Each of the winners received a laptop and a printer.
