South Korea implement 12 major projects in Timor-Leste worth US$ 88 million

DILI, 21 december 2022 ( TATOLI) – The South Korean Ambassador to Timor – Leste, Jeong-ho Kim, revealed that the Korean Government is implementing 12 major projects worth US $ 88 million in Timor – Leste.

“The project is a packaging project worth US$ 88 million and is implemented by KOICA. Some of these projects are being finalized and some are yet to finalize, while according to the plan this project will be completed in 2025, ” Ambassador, Jeong – ho Kim to Tatoli in his office in Kampung Alor, Dili.

The projects supported by the Korean Government through KOICA are: Digitize historical archives projects (2021-2024) valued at $5 million, Saemaul-Undong Project (2016-2022) valued at $1 million, the project focuses on encouraging and supporting rural development, Youth Employment project (2019 -2022) valued at $2 million, focused on job creation for rural unemploeyement, Disease control (2016-2022), valued at $6.5 focused on eliminating tropical diseases, Project Health against Tuberculosis with $6 million, project duration 2019-2024, Soccer Building a Sports Complex with $6.5 million, project duration 2020-2025, Nutrition project for improving School Food Quality with $7.86 million, project duration from 2021-2025, Clean Energy project for accelerating Clean Energy Access with $3 million, project duration from 2020 – 2024, Natural Disaster Resilience to Natural Disaster Project with $3 million, project duration from 2019-2022, Value Chain Improvement Agriculture project wi th $6 million, project duration from 2021-2025, Gender Equality Prevent Gender Based Violence project with $7.3 million, project duration from 2020-2024.

The Ambassador said support for the project aims to contribute to shared prosperity and promote world peace through inclusive and mutually beneficial development cooperation without leaving anyone behind.

The Ambassador also highlighted that, apart from these projects, the Government of South Korea also agreed to accept workers from Timor-Leste to work in South Korea, in 2008, after the two countries South Korea and Timor-Leste made a mobility agreement.

“We hope that with all the support, South Korea will step up with Timor Leste and continue to establish a strong relationship in supporting Timor Leste to become a developed country in the future,” he concluded.
